Theatre lobbies across the country are being filled with casts, crew members and volunteers fundraising with iconic red buckets in hand, culminating in the 33rd Annual Easter Bonnet Competition.
In exchange for a donation, audiences at many Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring shows over the next several weeks can receive autographed posters, Playbills and other memorabilia or one-of-a-kind experiences, including backstage tours and meet-and-greets.
Twenty-seven Broadway and Off-Broadway shows have started their appeals: Aladdin, Anastasia, Avenue Q, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, The Book of Mormon, The Cher Show, Chicago, Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, Fiddler on the Roof – in Yiddish, Frozen, Hamilton, Jersey Boys, King Kong, Kinky Boots, The Lion King, Mean Girls, Merrily We Roll Along, My Fair Lady, Network, The Phantom of the Opera, Pretty Woman, The Prom, To Kill a Mockingbird, Waitress and Wicked. More shows will be added throughout the six-week campaign. Last year, 62 Broadway, Off-Broadway and national tours raised $5.7 million during the Easter Bonnet Competition fundraising.
The fundraising ends in a two-day event, featuring performances from Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies. The Monday, April 22, performance will be at 4:30 pm and the Tuesday, April 23 performance will be at 2 pm.
This year’s special guests and celebrity judges will be announced later.
