Broadway Bares XIII: Burlesque is Back, Raises $450K for BC/EFA

Ever year Broadway Bares keeps getting bigger. The 2003 version of the spectacular, hosted by Hairspray Tony winners Harvey Fierstein and Marissa Jaret Winoker and entitled Broadway Bares 13: Burlesque is Back, raised approximately $450,000 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. That tops last year’s total by a whopping $50,000!

Every year for 13 years, conceiver/director Jerry Mitchell has convinced a group of Broadway professionals to strip for a good cause. This year’s Broadway Bares, which took place on June 15 at Roseland Ballroom, featured over 200 performers strutting their stuff. Just as he has for the last two years, composer Andrew Lippa wrote an original song for the event, “Burlesque is Back,” which was sung by Nine’s Tony Award-winner Jane Krakowski and Gypsy’s “Gotta Get A Gimmick” women (Kate Buddeke, Julie Halston and Heather Lee). Among the other notables who graced the Roseland stage was the legendary Eartha Kitt.
