
Broadway Cares Adds Eight Dynamic Voices to Board of Trustees

The Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Board of Trustees voted unanimously to welcome to the board eight distinguished industry leaders, each bringing unique expertise and a shared dedication to advancing the lifesaving mission of Broadway Cares.
Joining the board, effective October 9, 2025, are Grammy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated Sara Bareilles; Jeff T. Daniel, president of The Shubert Organization; Andrew Flatt, managing director of Disney Theatrical Group; Tony-winning actor J. Harrison Ghee; Tony-nominated actor Joshua Henry; producer John Johnson, co-founder of Wagner Johnson Productions; producer Greg Nobile, chief executive officer of Seaview Productions; and Tony-winning actor Lea Salonga.
“These leaders are among the most exciting voices in our industry,” said Robert E. Wankel, president of the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Board of Trustees and chairman and CEO of The Shubert Organization. “Their talent and diverse perspectives will be invaluable as we continue to grow Broadway Cares’ fundraising and grantmaking efforts. We are proud to welcome these dynamic voices to our board.”

Stepping off the board after years of distinguished service are Barry Brown, Richard Hester, Peter Lawrence, Jordan Roth and Tom Schumacher. The board also lovingly acknowledged the extraordinary contributions of two cherished board members who recently passed away: President Emeritus Paul Libin, prolific producer and longtime theater executive, and Trustee Cornelius Baker, a celebrated public health advocate and policy expert.
About the newest trustees:
Sara Bareilles is one of music and theater’s most beloved artists. She first captured attention as a hit pop singer-songwriter before making her mark on Broadway as the composer and lyricist of Waitress. Bareilles received Tony and Grammy nominations for the musical, and later starred in the show to great acclaim. A two-time Grammy winner, she also earned a Tony nomination for her turn as the Baker’s Wife in the 2022 revival of Into the Woods.Bareilles is currently developing her new musical, The Interestings.
Jeff T. Daniel is president of The Shubert Organization, the largest theater owner on Broadway. Daniel was previously chief strategy officer at Shubert, a role he assumed in September 2023 after serving as co-CEO of Broadway Across America. During the pandemic, Daniel spearheaded the Broadway industry’s relief efforts and was a key leader in managing Broadway’s reopening nationwide. He also serves on The Broadway League’s Board of Governors.
Andrew Flatt is managing director of Disney Theatrical Group, overseeing strategy and business operations across finance, legal affairs, labor relations, marketing, sales, education, touring, licensing and international partnerships. He has held leadership roles with Lincoln Center Theater, New York City Ballet, Denver Center Theatre Company and the Goldman Memorial Band. He also serves on The Broadway League’s Board of Governors.
J. Harrison Ghee made history as the first non-binary actor to win a Tony in a leading performance category for creating the role of Daphne/Jerry in Some Like It Hot. Ghee also had acclaimed turns as Lola in Kinky Boots and Andre Mayhem in Mrs. Doubtfire. They are currently starring in New York Theatre Workshop’s buzzy Saturday Church. Ghee continues to be a vocal advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community while developing roles that push the boundaries of representation.
Joshua Henry is one of Broadway’s most celebrated voices and leading actors, earning Tony nominations for his roles in Carousel, The Scottsboro Boys and Violet. He is currently starring as Coalhouse Walker Jr. in the Broadway revival of Ragtime, a role he previously played at New York City Center to universal acclaim. Henry has also played leading roles in Shuffle Along…, Waitress and the national tour of Hamilton, among many others.
John Johnson is a producer and co-founder of Wagner Johnson Productions. Johnson launched his prolific producing career with partner Sue Wagner on the Tony Award-winning 2005 revival of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. Since then, he has produced or general managed more than 55 acclaimed productions, including last season’s smash hits Good Night, and Good Luck and John Proctor is the Villain, with Oedipus and Dog Day Afternoon among his most anticipated titles this season.
Greg Nobile is a producer and the chief executive officer of Seaview Productions. Nobile made his Broadway producing debut at just 20 years old with A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, which went on to win the Tony Award for Best Musical. Since then, he has produced more than 25 acclaimed productions, including Stereophonic, Romeo + Juliet, Parade and the upcoming The Queen of Versailles. Under his leadership, Seaview has become known for championing bold, original storytelling – most recently expanding its reach with the opening of Studio Seaview, the company’s Off-Broadway home.
Lea Salonga is one of Broadway’s most iconic performers. She made history as the first Asian actress to win a Tony for originating the role of Kim in Miss Saigon and has since dazzled audiences in Here Lies Love, Les Misérables, Once on This Island, Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends and more. She is also beloved for her animated film work providing the singing voices of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan. In 2026, she will become the first Filipino to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
