Register to Vote Alongside Broadway’s Best with #BeltTheVote

Never has there been a more important “save the date” than Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

Broadway stars and theatre fans across the country, with the support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and in partnership with When We All Vote, are coming together to #BeltTheVote this fall.

The nonpartisan social media campaign aims to encourage all people to register to vote in September before their local deadlines, in preparation for the November 6 elections. The nationwide movement is dedicated to giving theatre lovers the information and tools they need to register, hold their own registration drives and then get to the polls to vote.

During When We All Vote’s National Week of Action on September 22-29, #BeltTheVote will coordinate voter registration events in theatres and schools across the country. Broadway performers will challenge their hometowns and alma maters to participate and engage with their social media audiences to become registered to vote.

“Today more than ever before, it’s important to ensure your voice is heard.” Broadway Cares Executive Director Tom Viola said. “There’s no better way to be a voice for the voiceless than to vote. By exercising your right to vote, we can continue to fight oppressive forces and protect the most marginalized, stigmatized and vulnerable among us. Lives literally hang in the balance and we all must step up. That means making sure you, your friends and families are registered to vote and then voting on November 6.”

Tony Award nominee Rory O’Malley, a #BeltTheVote organizer and star of The Book of Mormon and Hamilton, said: “America’s theatre community knows how to project its voice on stage, but this November 6, we have to carry our voice all the way to the voting booth. With the support of Broadway Cares, #BeltTheVote is going to make that happen by inspiring theatre fans, students and professionals to register and vote.”

Sara Bareilles, Mandy Gonzalez, Grey Henson, Katrina Lenk, Andrew Rannells, Will Roland, George Salazar, Jason Tam and Rick Younger are among the first passionate participants lending their voice to the cause in a special kickoff video.
