Christmas Eve With Christmas Eve
On December 14, musical comedy wonder Ann Harada revived her character “Christmas Eve” from the Tony Award-winning musical Avenue Q for CHRISTMAS EVE WITH CHRISTMAS EVE, a cabaret benefit for BC/EFA held at The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space @ WNYC in SoHo.
“I have been very good this year and Santa made my wish came true! I got to sing duets with my favorite handsome Broadway leading men,” said the evening’s star, whose wish-list-come-true included Broadway’s Bobby from the recent revival of Company, Raul Esparza, dueting on “Barcerona,” and Christopher Sieber, with whom Harada was able to show off an impressive lyric soprano in “People Will Say We’re in Rove” from Oklahoma! The evening was topped by a reunion withAvenue Q costars John Tartaglia and “Rod,” the closeted gay Republican puppet, singing a sensationally clever medley of Broadway showtunes carefully infused with songs of the season. Andy Karl came dressed as a combination Aladdin and Radames to sing “Elaborate Rives.”
Chip Zien and “Christmas Eve” debated who was the more famous therapist on Broadway. Out of nine of Paul Castree’s Broadway shows, the only one Christmas Eve knew was Footloose. Singing and dancing with her were Jeremy Davis and Michael Mindlin, who also choreographed the show.
The fast-paced event was conceived and written by Harada, Gary Adler and Alan Muraoka, with Muraoka directing and Adler providing musical direction.
